ZEC: the ZCG compromise

Bowe + Zooko governance ZIP, what it means for price · built 2026-10-30 15:58 UTC · not financial advice

What happened

Sean Bowe (Zcash cofounder) and Zooko withdrew Bowe's earlier "send ZCG's stream to the NSM" ZIP and filed a compromise draft (posted 2026-10-30 15:19 UTC). Zcash Community Grants (ZCG) keeps making grants from its treasury, but its 8% block-reward stream is redirected into a new locked "Future Dev and Legal Defense Fund" that needs community approval to spend, and ZCG donates 50,000 ZEC to the Network Sustainability Mechanism (NSM), which takes it out of circulation and re-issues it slowly through future block rewards. It's a draft ZIP: ZCG, the community and a network upgrade still have to sign off.

Activation via network upgrade
Stream change only applies after the upgrade activates; slow-burn, not a day-one supply shock.

Decision tree

NowGovernance compromise, ZEC ~$1,224 after a -9% day
If ZCG accepts + price reclaims $1,290
Hold / add the long
Targets $1,390 then $1,500
If it chops $1,180-1,290
Only bid the low end
Headline is small vs $1.5B daily volume
If 4h closes below $1,150
Out, no long
Macro/post-hack tape wins over governance news

Trade plan (spot or low-lev perp)

Entry$1,180-1,210 (24h low zone)
Invalidation4h close < $1,150
TargetsT1 $1,290 · T2 $1,390 (24h high)
R:R~2.1R to T1, ~4.3R to T2 from $1,195
SizeSmall. Governance news is a mild positive, not the driver.
